I love memoirs but this one seemed distant to me. Maybe it’s because the father and the daughter were a little distant with one another in this piece, it translated over into the reading? I liked the two perspectives, and I think it was beautiful to read about heading to your mother country and having a child who also wants to visit it while finding their identities. I think the way father and daughter viewed Vietnam is of course, starkly different, given the circumstances they were there for, birth to escape, and job opportunities and self-journeys.

I wanted a little more.
