i’m TRYING to enjoy mystery novels, but good god this was boring. perhaps if i was a bigger fan of the genre, this would be fun, as it’s incredibly meta and references iconic mystery tropes and novels. the large cast of characters was truly testing my godawful memory. not really for me, but it was a fine way to start spooky month

Call me a reliable narrator. Everything I tell you will be the truth, or, at least, the truth as I knew it to be at the time that I thought I knew it.

Oh I had fun with this one.

Synopsis: Crime writer Ernest "Ernie" Cunningham looks back on his family's disastorous attempt at a reunion in an isolated ski lodge in NSW Australia after his brother's release from jail. With a snowstorm, bitter family relations, and ten commandments for crime writers to stick to, Ernie will find out that everyone in his family has killed someone.

Review: A surprisingly emotional and darker read than the cosy mystery I was expecting. Ernie was a fun narrator, with many fourth wall breaks and intentional spoilers scattered throughout the book. The solution was a little jarring and broke one or two of the crime writing commandments.
