Goes through some interesting permutations of the sci Fi genre: Starts off in the chinese cultural revolution, which is not a common backdrop for sci fi stories. Introduces the mystery of space travel. Reveals that contact has been made. Then that some people on earth are waiting for the conquest of the planet by the aliens. Delves into the questions of humanity as well, how we are hastening our own destruction, the awful things we've done, and how we will inevitably kill ourselves .

Enjoyed it though most permutations, though it became a bit unbelievable
when they introduced the virtual reality game, but when they explained that it was a recruitment tool and an accurate depiction of trisolarians then that made a bit more sense.

The translation feels a bit clunky at times but the story kept me curious enough to continue on to where it picks up about 2/3 through. I will likely finish the series, but other holds have come in and I'm not sure what little momentum I've built will last.

Sci-fi is sooooo back… the number of twists and turns, the l the narrative unfolds from different folks at different points in time, the number of new concepts and rules that didn’t feel trite and each could have sustained a sci-fi trilogy of its own… I’m obsessed!!!

(The beginning was a lil more plot driven/world building which was hard to get hooked on, like I felt like I had to buy in to be interested in characters that I didn’t know anything about. I’m glad I stuck w it bc wowwwwww)
