I love a YA thriller and THE FEAR drew me in with its blurb and the cover -- love both. I really liked the overall premise of the book: viral meme gets teens to post their "death fear" and then two students are murdered in the same manner.
Take one shy-ish teen with a crush on one of the popular kids, add in a shady-ish classmate and a range of side characters (perky best friend, sweet cousin, sage older sister, and annoying in-crowd) and shake it all up with brutal killings amid a blustering and non-wavering snowstorm. It should be a non-stop thriller, but for me, I was not as engaged as I had hoped to be.
I figured out the killer early on and was frequently annoyed with Izzy, the main character. Izzy makes irrational decisions and at times, some felt out of character. For me, it was the abrupt "twist" ending that kept my rating at a 3-star versus a 4-star. It was too abrupt and I felt a bit cheated.

this book is very suspenseful!! i guess who it was from the jump! BUT the very last page really did get me and made this a 4 star vs 3 star read. quite thrilling
I love a good Natasha Preston Thriller and how they are really character driven and interestingly dynamic without being overly complex. I put off reading The Fear for so long because out of all of Natasha Preston's catalog, this one didn't seem as "up my alley", but I did really end up liking it for the way it came together. I also like the way this author always has that final FINAL FINAL monent in the book that is jaw-dropping.
I absolutely LOVED this book! I had an inkling of who the murderer was but that last page was a WOWZER for me. Natasha Preston, you have impressed me yet again!
I’ve had this on my shelf for a while and never picked it up. The TBR gods finally said it’s time and I’m glad they did. This is a YA murder mystery and it kept me hooked. I kept guessing who the killer was and had to know if I was correct. Turns out, I was BUT then the twist hit me like a truck. WHYYYYYYY did I not see that coming? This book is great.
OH MY GOD! I have never left a review before and —— OH MY GOD! I am BLOWN away by this book. Could not put it down and the last two lines!?! Floored! Five by five immediately and one of my new all time favorites.
The ending of this book is insane! Natasha always leaves me wanting more at the end of these books!!
This book had an interesting concept regarding using a viral meme to find and target victims. I knew who the killer was fairly early on and was feeling smug that I had it all figured out UNTIL THE LAST LINE!
