Very entertaining and unique story. I loved how prevalent the setting of Chicago was. Will definitely pick up the second book.
fun book and I will probably read the next Nick Mason.
Quick, yet fulfilling read. My only gripe is that it felt TOO rushed at times and I found myself having to go back at some points to recall something. This is a great start to this series and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the installments!
I really enjoyed this start of a new series by Steve Hamilton. It was quick and interesting . It left room for speculation on what will happen in his next adventure.
Disappointing. Predictable plot and stereotypical, two-dimensional characters.
Nick is unexpectedly let out of prison 5 years into a 25 year sentence and now he owes someone big time. The Second Life is a novel about gangsters, crooked cops and second chances. I liked Nick Mason and felt bad for the choices he had made in his life and the choices he has to make in the present. The book is left wide open for a sequel, and this book interests me enough that I might just read it.
Totally wanted to be Jack Reacher but didn't quite measure up.
I wanted so much to like this novel; it's an interesting premise and the idea of being in Nick Mason's situation is definitely anxiety-inducing. Just the same, I found myself constantly annoyed and frustrated by Mason's decisions, to the point that I really couldn't root for him as much as I needed to if I were to enjoy the novel. There is something intriguing about the idea, though, and I'm actually considering reading the second novel in the series despite my lukewarm opinion of this one.
