i’m afraid i don’t really like emily henry’s writing style… it’s very YA in a way i don’t really like because it was also kind of Y/N fan fiction adjacent. it was very apparent during the first couple chapters when january was being introduced. the Y/N-ness toned down a little bit when the main plot started picking up, but it was still there throughout the whole book. i think the plot is interesting, however there wasn’t a very good payoff at the end for me. overall it was an easy read and i did have a bit of fun, i was just expecting more from it.

(2.5) I hate that this was my first introduction to emily henry and I definitely want to try another one of her books after this but this was such a let down to me. I didn’t feel the main characters had any chemistry and I found myself hoping to get through it quicker just so I could be done with it. I felt bored at only 50% in and I think I’ll have to give this book another try when I’m in a different mood or headspace for it. (also I don’t really like Gus,,, fictional men need to be at a much higher level than he is for me)

Any book that can get me giggling and kicking my feet over a man named Gus is a good book. Love Emily Henry’s ability to write romance with strong themes unrelated to romance (in this case, family, direction in life, etc) without making me want to cringe or gag.
