A really incredible way to finish the story of Earthsea, that reveals and embellishes so much about the world it has created. Le Guin is incredible at establishing beautiful scenes that place you in the moment, but this is more a fact of the Earthsea books in general rather than this one in particular. The world of Earthsea is rich with detail and beauty, love and fear, and it all culminates here in ways you would never have thought reading the first one, two, or even three books. If you like fantasy, do yourself a favor and read all 5 Earthsea books.

Idk how she does it. Ursula somehow writes so many words, but the story is slower paced than the words. For the last 2 books anyway. But cool ending. Deeper meaning vibes.

This is the end of the Earthsea novels. A beautiful end, but like in real life, there is no perfect resolution. Progress has been made. The world is changing. More changes shall comeā¦ even though we readers shall not be there to see it. I find that comforting in a way. It has been a delight to follow Ged and Tenar and their world. It feels as real as the one we live in. I like thinking that it keeps going even if I cannot read more stories.
The narrator of this book did a lovely job. I wish that there was a complete audiobook version of the entire series with either a single narrator or a full cast. But there is not. Thus, I have heard a variety of voices I've the past few months reading the stories of Earthsea.
It is difficult for me to decide who was my favorite. But all have been enjoyable. This one was no exception.

It is difficult to finish a series on a high when the series written over a few decades and the last few books were not as good as the initial ones. However, the story of Tehanu is neatly wrapped up in this book and there is a sense of ending to the series after this book, as the nature of the world itself changes after this book. The characters are well-written and the plot is gripping even though the two main characters of the series take a back seat in this book.
All the books in the series have one thing in common, which is that there is no build-up to the climax. There is no exaggerated sense of impending climax in any book. That was initially disappointing as I was expecting it, but later turned out to be enjoyable (as I don't have to read fast and hurry though the pages, in suspense of what is going to happen).
