I’ve never related to a character more than Beyah. So much so that we nearly have the same name. I almost didn’t continue reading this book due to how deeply I connected to her and her relationships with her parents was too triggering for me and complicated mentally for me. I was encouraged to push on by my sister who recommended the book and I’m glad I continued. Everyone in the reviews for this are harping on the romance plot and how “annoying” Beyah is. But as a person who actually related to her, I am able to see her and I watched her grow throughout the book. I watched her move past her “struggle” story and grow into a new “true” self. This is something I’m currently working on for myself and I appreciate that Beyah was able to acknowledge and let go of the anger she held towards her parents. I don’t believe that the focus of this book was the summer romance, and instead I see it as a personal journey of finding oneself.

Moest toch ook een keer CoHo lezen, en deze had tenminste een gelukkig einde! Leest snel weg en zat wel een beetje vol clichés (mijn mening) maar vond het leuker dan gedacht!

I just discovered Colleen Hoover a few months ago, she got me back into reading and this book is again, proof why. I was sucked into the story the minute I started reading and i finished it in one go. The lovestory felt very pure to me and in combination with the heartbreaking bits about her parents, it was the perfect story for me to lose myself into. Again, a well deserved 5 stars. Oh and for real… page 235, “he came out to cheer for me”. My. Heart. Skipped. and i could cry right there in that moment.
