3.5 rounded down to 3. Good but not great. For me, Iron Widow was a very middling book. It was compelling and there was a lot of love, but there were a few things that detracted from my overall enjoyment. Zetian set herself on a mission to make a statement and save female pilots, but I felt like the pilots were continually forgotten about. And the ending, while showstopping, seemingly came out of nowhere. There were no indications that the book was heading in that direction. I do plan on reading book two because this is a very compelling world, but I just wish book one had been stronger.

I'll say I was intimidated to read this one because almost everyone that has read it has recommended it to me. It was definitely worth it. 

I liked the magical elements in this, how it describes the whole world and the relationships. The conflicts and everything had me at the edge of my seat and I wanted more.
