Some good insights but hard to read due unnecessarily lengthy prose. Seneca should be given posthumous Belgian citizenship because this is mostly waffle.

Themes touched on in the letters:
  • Death, and why we should not fear it
  • Death and grief
  • Friendship and its importance
  • Treatment of people that are socially beneath us, we should treat them the same
  • Importance of living a virtuous life
  • Importance of philosophy
  • Not caring about the opinion of others
  • Usefulness of liberal arts?
  • Things were invented by ordinary men, not philosophers
  • Materialism
  • Waking up early
  • Not being tempted by what's popular, but rather what's right

I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to people who enjoy being preached to.

Written over 2000 years ago and still Seneca’s words of advice are relevant today. Reading his letters are reading a rare form of brilliance that has survived two millenniums.
