Great story about a princess who doesn't need to be saved.
At this point, I feel like The Paper Bag Princess is rightfully considered part of the canon, so I hardly need to laud its virtues. Elizabeth is a no-BS hero who doesn't flinch in the face of reptilian wrath and refuses to settle for anything less than complete success. Contemporary quibbles over the seeming incongruity of her initial approval of the prince miss the point of the story: Elizabeth is dealt a very raw hand and proceeds to triumph with wit and grace.
This is probably my favorite Robert Munsch book, and I own most of them. This is also the book that made me realize just how much a toddler understands you. My niece knows that if she brings auntie this book, auntie WILL read it. Hence my sister hiding it after 4 or 5 reads each visit. lol
Wonderful book with a princess saving a useless prince from a dragon and realizing she doesn't want some shallow prince who only wants her for her face value. I take great delight in reading the ending, every single time.

Every little girl needs this book. Strong message, fun adventure, and cute drawings.
I forgot how much I *LOVE* this book! I'm glad that re-reading it as an adult results in the same enjoyment as when I was younger. This book is funny, the outsmarting of the dragon will be interesting to kids who like trickster tales, it subverts traditional gender roles in fairy tales, and it reminds the reader that there's no use in hanging on to someone who doesn't appreciate you. Thank you, Robert Munsch.
I read this for the "A Book Featuring Royalty" part of my 2020 reading challenge. I love it, it's such a classic and timeless story that brings me right back to my childhood. I enjoy the strong female character standing up for herself.
