Es una pena que no tuve el privilegio de absorber este libro por primera vez en su lenguaje original — mi lengua materna. Mi decisión de adquirir la versión original fue muy sabia de mi parte, ya que me expuso a un texto que no carece del contexto cultural de latinoamerica que le da color y vida. 

Bazterrica se ha convertido en una de mis autoras favoritas — su crítica es punzante y no hace concesiones, dejándote sin aliento, pero con ansias de más. 

Reconectar con el contexto cultural que inspiró esta historia me ha llevado a querer crear un artículo que lo defienda, ya que lamentablemente muchos dan por alto sus mensajes por falta de conexión con su contexto y sus inspiraciones. 

Esta novela es una brillante y aterrorizante exploración de la capacidad del ser humano a normalizar la brutalidad en el nombre de la paz, nuestra comodidad. Racismo, machismo, teorías de conspiración que catapultan a realidades absurdas e inhumanas — esto es lo que este libro explora. Cuando lo leí la primera vez, se me pararon los pelos por el horror y asco que sentía. En fin; este es un perfecto ejemplo de lo que una obra distópica debe ser: horripilantemente real, mentalmente combatante, y valientemente veraz.

imagine creating a brilliantly horrifying idea for a dystopian society, and then picking the most monotonous, spineless, and sad excuse of a main character to carry it out.
there was no build up, no direction, literally nothing.
thankfully it’s a quick read because it only took me 2 days to finish, but the rage i felt after the last sentence is enough to make me never want to pick it back up.
rage-read the book because YOLO or whatever (ifykyk).

Meat processing plant worker lives through time where world starts to eat humans and treats them like livestock. After wife leaves him when their baby dies, he is gifted a female and ends up getting her pregnant. He misses the zoo, watches puppies beat to death, is the only one dealing with their father in a nursing home where he is losing his mind, his sister is self centered and he calls her hypocritical after their father dies and she only cares about appearances. Immediately after, he calls his wife (who has been living at her moms house) over to help deliver the female’s baby, they slaughter the female, and then keep the baby as their own.
