Incredible adaption of David copperfield. Relentlessly saddening and infuriating, so very good at painting the picture of Demon and those around him. Some bits did feel a bit didactic, but I’d happily read another book about these characters. Would highly recommend.

Took me a while to get through this one. Loved it tho. Great writing! Author did a good job fleshing out relationships which made me feel more connected to the characters and overall story.

This is probably one of my favorite Kingsolver books. It's also a fairly faithful adaption of David Copperfield. Most of all, it's a good reminder to not look down on the hillbillies, rednecks, and supposed trailer trash for just existing and dealing with the hands they were dealt.
