I want to scream from the rooftops how spectacular this book was; instead I’ll opt for a goodreads review. From the first page I loved this book, and that never ever happens for me. Many nights I lost track of time reading this book. Each character was compelling, and made me love the story even more. This is one of my favorite books I’ve read this year, and one of my overall favorites.
What a great book 1??!! I thoroughly enjoyed this read - the main character was interesting and I loved hearing his story. Side characters were also great - plenty of them to keep the story engaging.
I also loved the setting - a warrior school. Was great to see Vaelin and his friends grow throughout the story.
Looking forward to getting to the rest in the trilogy as soon as I can -we still have so much to learn about the magic and its users in this world.

Probably the best newer fantasy book I have read in years. Combines a school setting with political intrigue and a mysterious nemesis you can't quite figure out yet.
If I have any qualms about it, it's mostly that it's such a huge sausage fest, with only two female characters standing out in any form.
4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Not often I give 5 stars but loved this one. Hope number 2 as good
Blood Song is one of my favorite novels. I loved the tempo and pace of the story. It may have seemed slow at first but all of the details you read in the first half of the book of Al Sorna's time training in the Order is so important.
The only thing I had trouble keeping up with was the flashbacks at the end of the book. It usually took a few paragraphs to see when/where Al Sorna was at.
I look forward to reading the rest of the series. The ending definitely made this book 5 star worthy.

It took some time for me to really get into this book and to start caring for the characters. I found the setting a little bland. However after sticking with it, the world is shown to be way more interesting than I first gave it credit for and the characters and especially the protagonist grew on me.
Apparently I'm a sucker for huge epic sprawling fantasy. I see people mentioning parallels with Rothfuss's King Killer trilogy and I can definitely see these as well.
So, another addiction for me; on the the next book!

Pretty simple medieval fantasy. Entertaining but took a while to be interesting.
Also apparently the rest of the series doesn’t follow through on what is setup here, so extra meh.
Terrible audiobook reader.
