Every female character was the same. If the weren’t an assassin trying to seduce the main character for him to kill they were a martyr healing woman. The women were poorly written.
Some interesting things. It's too long, and the quality of the writing seemed variable to me. Lots of comma splices. Lots of telling rather than showing. A main character that seemed to lack depth and didn't change much. I did read it to the end though, so it held my attention even when I was frustrated with it.

Would have enjoyed this more if it wasn't so rampantly sexist. The author has a lot of promise if he ever realizes that women aren't just cardboard cut-outs that jiggle around in the background.
4.5/6
I really liked this book! It probably would’ve gotten a 5 from me but I just felt the end was a bit anticlimactic. Luckily for me, I already have the second book! I saw some similarities between this and the Prince of Thorns series (which I love) in the secret machinations of ancient evil beings. The female characters are pretty eh and I didn’t particularly care for either’s characterization, but I liked them both well enough (one more than the other). I look forward to the second one! Will be starting soon!

I was hooked by the 2/3 of the book but slowly get bored by the rest. However the story still has much unfinished intrigue which makes me want to continue the series

This book is good but the series nose dives after it unfortunately
I thought Blood Song was absolutely fantastic. The character development, story, and pacing were spot on. Books of this genre can be fairly hit or miss for me as they aren't always consistent and can sometimes seem to drag on in places. But think was a winner. I honestly can't think of anything to complain about in this book.
I am disappointed, however, reading reviews on the rest of the series.......it sounds as if the following books don't match Blood Song on any level. I haven't decided if I should continue, or let this single book live on in glory, rather than ruining its legacy if I continue with the series!
