I really liked this one - flew through it. Good story, good writing, good pacing. I guess I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could; it's not perfect. Still, a good read, and recommended. Especially for $5 on Amazon. Looking forward to the next one.
The thing with this book is, you have too like both magic and war, and although I’m crazy for book with magic, the fighting aspect of it is not for me.
The universe itself is amazing, the author makes sure to inform you of every detail of the lore but for me, the plot got kinda lost along the book.

I enjoyed this book enough that I ended up buying and starting on the second one right after finishing Blood Song.
I liked the pacing of the book, and the jumps in time and place between the scribe and Vaelin, the world building was good and the magic system interesting.

Damn. Intricate without being too complex. Great characters and interesting plot that was believable (for a fantasy book).

A well-designed plot and generally well written. This would be a great book if it had been properly edited. This is something of a grown-up version of the Shadowfell books.
Blood Song is a classic coming of age fantasy story, with battle school elements, brotherhood and comradeship. This is a super impressive debut novel. I was engaged from the start and stayed engaged all the way through the book. I honestly did not want to put this book down and every time I picked it up I lost track of all the distractions around me and was engrossed in the story. I loved reading about Vaelin and his journey, the world building was really well done with different elements being revealed throughout the story. I just really loved this book and I am excited to continue reading more from this series and author.
