I very much enjoyed this book and I will definitely be continuing with this trilogy. The world, characters and plot were all engaging and well written. I am excited to see where it goes in the next books.

I liked it (not loved), the main character is a huge Gary Stu though. I'll move on to the next book, but I don't think this is anything I'll ever re-read.
*I listened to the audiobook*
I enjoyed the book, the story, and the characters once I got into the book. A little of a slowish start the story builds up through the training and character building to a good ending.
Of particular note; the variation in narrator / PoV. I really liked the limited view of the 1st person narration of the historian and the conflict in truths between the story being told to him, and the one we hear. It was cleverly done.

A solid 3.75/5 ⭐️
Reminiscent of The Name of the Wind but without Rothfuss’ signature style of poetic prose, Blood Song is a really solid, well written and interesting epic fantasy.
I really found myself caring about the characters and oh boy that ending got me in my feels. The world building was careful and detailed without being overdone. I don’t always love a story based around religious zealots and I found that I occasionally stopped being immersed in the tale to stop and mentally mock/snigger/sigh at the obvious parodies of real-world religious conflict. That being said, I didn’t hate the setting and my love of the characters and interesting in the path of the story overcame my disinterest in religion (real or fictitious).
I am excited to continue the journey with book 2!
Note: I must (yet again) bemoan the absence of well written women, and of the less than spectacular nature of inclusivity offered by this story (hello infrequent but ever present fat phobia and ableism). A shoutout does go to the casual references to The Gay™️ made throughout which acknowledged without dramatising its presence.

A really great book, highly recommended, must read for all fantasy fans. A really good twist at the end.
