Solid intro into the works of the Bard. There isn't a lot on his life, but this book does manage to introduce some of the mysteries that surround him. This would be wonderful to pair with any fiction books that mention his works.

Enjoyed reading this one with my four and a half year old. I love this whole series and we have many of the books, which I read to her. One of my favorite things about this reading time is the fact that she is actually retaining some of the information, and will mention something days later, or ask a question. I highly recommend this series for all kiddos - and start them early! It is never too early for a little non-fiction.

A good introduction to Shakespeare ... good illustrations to engage young readers ... not as in-depth as I'd hoped / expected.

Who Was William Shakespeare? by Celeste Mannis is a book in the Who Was/Is Series. All books are nonfiction biography books about someone famous. My eight-year-old found it dull and slow, and while I agree it is a bit dry, it’s jam-packed full of history, culture, politics, and social education. I wish it was told with a bit more pep and humor so he’d enjoy it more, but I’m hopeful as we continue to read the series and enter more modern times that he’ll get more engaged.

Biography I read with my daughter for a school project. Well written and informative. I love how this series states the historical facts, yet adds enough interesting tidbits to keep it fun and entertaining for kids.

Very informative without being boring. I had to read it for English class in eighth grade, and we used it sort of as a textbook for facts about Shakespeare. Not a bad read if you're interested in the great playwright.
