I enjoyed reading this book although it did feel a bit like a repetition of the previous book. But you know what, I didn't mind it at all.
The characters are lovable, the story is swooning and by the end, we are all here for it.
There wasn't much of a world-building as in the previous book, and this was more of a slower pace storyline with a bit less action. You could read it as a standalone but it would be useful to read the previous one first.
Max is a game nerd, naive and kind, and lovable from the start.
Ragos, on the other hand, is a jerky guy at the start, the prologue was a bad start for him, but he has his story to be told and he gets his redemption.
The chemistry between Max and Ragos was a delight. It starts with a miscommunication but it is predictable so it doesn't go on your nerves reading it. If this is a trope that you hate, maybe you should skip this one. Their relationship grows slowly and it is so easy and lovely, it builds its roots and nothing can stop them. Yeah, they both have faults
but that is what it all makes fun to read.

Eliza Macarthur had recommended this on IG and since I've read everything else Ruby Dixon has written I decided to give it a go. This series is more in line with epic fantasy, and has a quest! And a bit more fantasy worldbuilding. This one was like Laura Thalassa and Lore Olympus with a little bit of LOTR. Plus, morality chain! Gotta love it. And this is one of the rare romance novels with menstruation mentioned.
Also, the whole poop rope thing in the notes afterward made me laugh. POOP ROPE!
*CWs include but are not limited to: sexual assault, grey areas of consent, violence, suicide, gore.

3 ⭐️ lost interest, didn’t care for the characters
What a roller coaster. I didn’t like it as much as the first one romance-wise but the plot had me theorising and shit. Which is my favourite thing about Ruby’s books I can always respect the smut with a plot. (I think my problem with the romance even though I really enjoyed it! There was a bit of detachment from Max’s POV cos she just doesn’t believe he could love her? Like girl rejoice in his attention, grovel a little bit you know).
Her plot really killed in the one though. I loved trying to figure out Rhagos’s plan, which Aspect he was and even reading his dialogue twice to decipher his meaning.
So much fun. Plus the little tease we got about Kassam, can’t wait to see where that’s heading!

2nd one may be better than the 1st
If you haven’t read the 1st go back and do so before reading this one.
OMG I LOVED this one! Rhagos and Max were adorable and the banter was fun. There is some (almost) insta-love (mainly for him). Max is such an amazing FMC. Her strength comes from her understanding and ability to see all the facets to a situation. Was I upset near the beginning with some of her power use choices? Yes. Did I understand how important this was to her growth and Rhagos’ growth? Yes.
Ultimately this series has been great so far and I do appreciate the world building and anchor/god relationship that is consistent. However I don’t feel like Ruby is giving us the same story just with new characters. The big picture/structure is similar and comforting but the dynamics and challenges each anchor/god faces is different. Plus the vast world allows for the stories to take place at the same or similar times without the characters overlapping except in a few fun ways.
Also, I need a novella or full book in the Spidae and Yulenna. I’d be fine with a novella but I just want to read that relationship building and craziness I know ensued through that environment. Plus it would be a small break from the pattern we’ve had thus far while still holding true to the best pieces of Aos.
And finally…poop rope…need I say more?!

I. Live. For. This. Shit.
10/10.
Wish I had seen the OG covers bc bahahahaha omg I can’t even.
Did I cry? Yes I did. Is it most likely bc I have my period? 100%. Is it kinda cheesy? Yes but not cringey and that’s an important distinction. Do the tears and cheese make me love it more? 1000000%.
