Jules is Ava’s best friend. Josh is Ava’s brother. They have hated each other for as long as they have known each other. But they are both busy and come up with a deal to be friends with benefits without the friends.

I hated the first book in this series about Ava and Alex but I really wanted to read about Josh and Jules so I gave them a chance. When I started the book I found Josh and Jules more fun to follow and read about but that kinda fell flat very fast.

The problem with this book is the use of unnecessary scenes (just like the first book). Once again, we have some underdeveloped mystery plot that randomly starts in the middle of the book with no lead-up whatsoever. It's just annoying to read because this book could've done perfectly fine without it - let's just say I mostly skimmed through those flashbacks about Jules her past.

I hated Ava and Alex, I could not stand them for the life of me and that did not change in this book. It was a pain to read about them in this book, and the fact they were present for so long I get angry just thinking about it. But that made it easier for Josh and Jules to be a nicer couple to follow, so they were in the beginning when they still hated each other. I was intrigued with the idea of enemies with benefits and the first to smutty scenes definitely delivered but then it just got repetitive and boring.

Somewhere halfway through the book I was at a point where I would give this book three stars because it was enjoyable to read and nothing really was that bad to give it less until ... until Josh decided to become a whole ass red walking flag. ~spoiler~ When he decided to lie to Jules about forgiving her just to fuck her and then say 'I lied, I did not forgive you', excuse me but that's on the line of nonconsual sex which equals to rape. He knew damn good that she would not have had sex with him if he hadn't forgiven her. I despice such behaviour and let's just say I now hate him too and he has no redeeming qualities or excuses that excuse this behaviour so yay, another man by Ana Huang I hate. Can't say I'm not surprised ~end spoiler~

Let's just say this book is way too long for what it is and an editor should have definitely cut out majority of those scenes. I don't know if I will ever be able to read one of her books (at least in this series) and like them because they're just so messy and all over the place. I am intrigued for the next couple in this series but I just know there will be some 'mystery' plot line about someone's past that will ruin the whole book so I think I'm just gonna pass on that.

ARC Review

I swear each book in this series just keeps getting better and better. I knew that this book was going to be enemies to lovers but this just hit the perfect mark with all the hate and banter that these two had. Jules and Josh were definitely one of the stories that I was quite excited about since we knew from the beginning of this series how much they hated each other. I loved how this just hit all these amazing tropes which is something that I didn't think about since the most obvious one was just enemies to lovers. Also, I did add a trigger warning list at the end of the review, Ana Huang puts one in the book as well.

Now, this might be a bit of a spoiler but I didn't know that this would be enemies to lovers but I love how that's how they started their relationship because there was honestly no other way for them to get together but that way. I think this book was just so good especially because of how much Jules and Josh fight against everything so that they don't accept their feelings towards each other.

Jules has to be one of my favorite heroines that Ana Huang has ever written just because of how flawed and human she is. I'm not saying that Ava or Bridget are perfect but Jules has definitely been through some things that the others haven't. I didn't expect to love her so much but she's one of those characters that stick with you and because of how she was, especially in the end, I sympathize with her. I just know that she really deserves the world.

Joshy was honestly a very interesting and complex character because there are certain scenes that I wouldn't have expected from him and he just amazed me. I definitely think that this book did a great deal of showing us how the hate is more than just the dislike that he has towards Jules but from all the betrayal that he has gone through in the past two years. There were definitely some times where he was a total asshole but the making-up was so worth it.

Overall, this book is a definite read and something that I think that everyone should read because there are honestly not enough books like this one. I do think that it goes a bit more on the darker side than any other book that Ana Huang has written. Also, I loved the crumbs we got from AvaAlex and BridgetRhys, they were so adorable and I absolutely miss them! I just want to know that you'll enjoy it and let me know what you think of it because I want to hear everyone's thoughts on it.

Trigger Warnings:

-Mentions of Rape
-Mentions of having sex in order to survive

Ok, this book was so freaking good and I can't believe everything that happened in it. Honestly, the sex scenes were to die for, and the hate sex, OMG!! Besides the sex, there were so many great scenes like the first date. OMG, I melted for Josh that whole time because that shit was so cute and I didn't think that he would be that thoughtful. I didn't expect Josh to be such a dark character but there were definitely certain parts that left me so surprised by how protective he was towards Jules and how mean he was to her too. Major spoiler alert, when Jules tells Josh what she did and the way he just says, "I lied" at the end fucking destroyed me. I was not prepared for Josh to do that because I thought he was supposed to be nice and sweet but boy was I wrong. As for Jules, MY BABY REALLY DID NOTHING WRONG! Like she was trying to save herself and not hurt Josh but she did the best that she could. Jules was nowhere near the betrayal that Alex or Josh's dad did because she admitted what she did and she gave everything back. Josh had every right to be mad but not to the point of what he did but he definitely deserved to beg for forgiveness.
