Refreshing

3.5 stars. I liked this, but it definitely suffered from the fact that I read Royal Wedding first and nothing that was in the book was new to me. It was just reading the same entire story from a different POV, and while Olivia's POV is delightful, I was hoping for just a little bit more.

As a huge fan of the Princess Diaries I was pleased to see this new series set in the same „world“, but for younger children. The book is exactly as expected: sweet, short, and well adapted to the targeted reading audience. The most interesting part for me was to see how different a younger kid reacts to the revelation that she is actually a princess.
I listened to the audiobook of the German translation, because this is what I had access to. It was a bit disconcerting, since they made a king out of princess Mia’s dad and a queen out of her grandmother - when we all know that Genovia is a principality!
Except for that detail the audio version was quite good, as I finished it in one sitting.
Apparently the book was illustrated by the author, but I have not seen the art yet.

Reread: read for the second time as I just bought the next books in the series. Still cute!

I really enjoyed it. I kinda felt silly reading a middleschool book but hey....I love me some Meg Cabot. And if it's got anything to do with Princess Mia, I'm going to devour it. It was cute and I really liked more of Olivia's pov as she was mostly quiet in Royal Wedding. Probably going to read the others in this series....with no future shame.

I am a HUGE fan of the princess diaries series. Like read each book >5 times level fan. So of course I had to devour this.

This middle-grade series is perfect for the next generation. Olivia is sweet, but feisty and again Cabot has written some perfectly flawed characters. Several appearances by original Princess Diaries characters add to the fun. The plot is a bit of a rehash of what we learned from Mia already, but told from the perspective of Olivia. There's a lot of silliness and the plot is certainly less developed than Mia's story, but somehow it still grabbed me.

Great thematic messages and funny complex characters - 4/5

I loved The Princess Diaries, so it was cool to go back to the same setting with new characters and different perspectives!

I have read everything Meg Cabot has written. Literally everything. Even her romance novels she wrote under a pseudonym. But I resisted her middle age books. I just felt they were too juvenile and missed the awesomeness that is Meg Cabot's style. But I saw this at the library and...it has Mia in it. Mia from Princess Diaries (who is basically my literary twin). So I broke down and read it. Basically the book follows the same storyline that happened in Royal Wedding only from Olivia's perspective. I also learned I really liked Olivia. So I guess I'm going to keep reading this series as long as Mia is in them. Also Grandmere is super sweet with Olivia, which is cute since Mia always writes less flattering things about her.

It's the Princess Diaries stories for a younger crowd! Olivia suddenly finds out that her father is the Crown Prince of Genovia and her half-sister is Princess Mia Thermopolis, whose story she has followed for the last few years, never imagining that she would end up with a similar fate. My only confusion is that they reference the Princess Diaries stories as if the reader would be familiar with them, but the intended audience wouldn't have read them yet. I suppose they might have seen the movies, though. Cute and fun. Recommended for grades 3-6.
funny lighthearted fast-paced

It was a little slow in the beginning and a bit of an adjustment for me because I was used to Mia, but this is definitely a cute book and good to see it from Olivia's perspective. The ending made me cry so much. It was happy but sad that she was getting this so late in life.
