When I first got into Bl historical Cdrama(I first started with MXTX, untamed), the series “Word of Honour” was suggested. But first, I wanted to read “the book”.

This one is a fan translation and they did a good job.
Like many historical dramas or books, the world building and magic was confusing. However, as the story progressed, I became more invested in the characters. Not gonna lie Wen Kexing was a lovable character. His open attraction and flirtatiousness behaviour to Zhou Zhishi was funny.
Gu Xiang and Chengling; this couple is so painful. I wasn’t as attached as I was in the beginning, but their downfall really hurts me, not only because C loved GX knowing of her demonic being and also they were young; newly married… that extra chapter at the end was legit a white flag from the author…
With all the angst that has been going on, the author included extras that seems to be balm from all the chaos. The way the author wrote WK’s devotion and love for Zz is beautiful:
As long as he's willing to give me the tiniest bit of affection, from this point on, every day he lives, I will live with him. If he passes on, I will hold a bundle of dry grass, douse myself in kerosene, and burn up together with him, turning to ash, becoming one with the earth in the same spot.

Wk is Zz gay awakening.
Not gonna lie, as someone who is knew to bl romance, I enjoyed how open Wk was with his sexuality. Even though it was a lil too much for others to hear or witness.
