There are ways to write a shocking hook to a novel, this wasn't it. This was sexual assault. And bad dialogue.

The beginning of this book was rough, to say the least. However, it did pick up mabye a third of the way through. I do with there was more resolution though between Alex and her dad. I wish it would've discussed why her father made the choice he did, and the history of why . . . I did really appreciate the small town, particularly considering how there are small town stories never told because the person telling them a POC.

I couldn’t continue after the first chapter. We know virtually nothing about the characters and they know even less about each other, but they’re going to have sex within minutes of meeting? There wasn’t even enough time for them to develop even a tiny bit of chemistry. And there was virtually no consent from the MMC before he was sexually assaulted. Having no connections to these characters made me both disinterested and gave me the ick after just the 1st chapter.
