Surprisingly, the 2nd book of the Percy Jackson series was shorter than its predecessor with less than 100 pages. But the fun, thrill and excitement is this present in this part.
It is a delight how new characters such as Tyson, and recurring characters like Clarisse were given focus as they were either not present or only briefly highlighted in the first book respectively.
Despite having a gap within my reading episodes with this book, I easily felt connected to Percy and the gang's cause, and their journey to rescue Grover and the Golden Fleece for the revival of Thalia- the tree protecting the borders of Camp Half-Blood.
Percy's characterisation has matured, which is an impressive feat. His age was unspecified here (or I may have missed it) but within the 1 school year he was away from Camp Half-Blood, he has developed to be selfless and less superficial in wanting to be credited of the outcome and actually communicate with others even to those he may not get along with.
I may have developed an attachment with Tyson after this book. He is adorable and will be missed in the next book but I'm also glad Grover is back after only glimpses of him throughout this journey.

Percy Jackson is altijd heerlijk gewoon. Leuk boek, raast op een kneiterhard tempo door het plot heen. Gewoon genieten weer.

¿Una secuela digna del primer libro?
Comencé a leer el libro inmediatamente después de que terminé el primero. Afectado por el hype mis ánimos cayeron al darme cuenta de que el nuevo año no era tan emocionante como yo esperaba. La pelea en el gimnasio de la escuela se me hizo de cierta forma forzada pero creo que cobró sentido conforme la historia avanzaba.
He de ser honesto, la trama se me hizo un poco más floja en comparación al primero, pero el final es "todo lo que está bien".
Comencé a sentir empatía por Tyson cuando le dan su papel "protagónico" y cómo me dolió el saber que siendo un cíclope tuvo que crecer solo en las calles de New York. Por como son descritos en el libro, tímidos y de poca habilidad para hablar (al menos los de la edad de Tyson), pude entender que haber crecido ahí fue más que una tortura; las cicatrices en su espalda lo confirman en extremo. Me dolió aún más cuando recordé la actitud de Percy hacia los acampantes y sus comentarios acerca de "el nuevo hermano de Percy" (ya que Poseidon lo reclamó como su hijo de la misma forma que hizo con Percy) después de conocer el pasado del joven cíclope; aún así encontré consuelo en que Tyson pidió un amigo (o hermano, no recuerdo bien) a su padre en oración y después conoció a Percy, mi corazón quedó super conmovido, y eso que no soy una persona muy sentimental.
Sin duda seguiré leyendo porque me interesa como se desenvuelve la trama a partir de aquí.
No sentí que hubiera tantos momentos de relleno como tal. Si acaso cuando Percy y Annabeth llegan a la isla donde está la hechicera.

Muy buen gesto hacer que Thalia aparezca al final porque así Rick Riordan logró engancharme para seguir leyendo. Me dan bastante curiosidad los planes de Kronos porque como dijeron ahí, ahora son dos piezas en el tablero las que pueden ser usadas por el titán.
