Got so caught up in the messy drama of these rich new yorkers lives that I almost forgot the story was building to a mystery death. Perfect beach read.

I can't quite decide if this should be a 2 or a 2.5 star rating. The story kept me reading, but don't go into this thinking it's a thriller or mystery. There's the smalllllest little bit of a mystery, the rest is just rich people drama. Which I usually enjoy, but for this one it just didn't land the same way for some reason. I think there were too many perspectives, to be perfectly honest.
I also read that the manuscript of this book caused a lot of drama for the real location of Saltaire and the author. Which if she did write about any drama that came from real life, I can totally see why people would be in an uproar! There's a lot to unpack here if real people are involved in these scandals.
Overall, it was a short, quick, read that kept me going. But it landed somewhat flat and I probably won't remember much about it after the next few months.

A fast mindless read that reads kind of like a reality show meeting a train wreck. You hate every one of the characters, they are all terrible but somehow you can’t stop watching, in this case reading.

This book is aptly named because all I could think, every time a new piece of information was revealed, was “wow, they are all seriously bad people.” I do think the author was a little heavy-handed in leading us to the point too often, but overall I enjoyed this story. the setting was so fun, and it was perfect for the type of story this was—not too scary, not too tense, but still mysterious and intriguing. I’m fascinated by reading about rich, horrible characters that do not care about anyone else except themselves and their reputations. it makes for GREAT storytelling and conflict.
