I can see why I loved this one in my childhood. And while it may not have impacted who I am today as much as, say, A Little Princess did, it has definitely impacted my reading tastes to this day. Hard sci-fi, with a heavy dash of 'if your science is advanced enough it's indistinguishable from magic', as well as a section about a dystopian society, and a main character who loves math but struggles with  her temper and social interactions.

There are some Christian themes in this book, though also an odd comment that seems to put Buddha on the same level with Jesus, and a character called a medium who can see the future. Generally, content is limited to some more or less veiled comments about infidelity, a bit of bullying and fighting, and the usual danger and tension you'd expect from an adventure story. This would make a great family read aloud, though for reading on their own, I wouldn't recommend it for the very youngest readers.

I honestly don’t remember much about this book. I remember my 3rd grade teacher reading this to us. It was always my favorite part of the day. I think my 3rd grade teacher and this book was one of the things that sparked my love for reading. Which is the main reason why i’m giving it 5 stars: nostalgic purposes.

A Wrinkle in Time is truly a story that defies being defined by an intended audience. As someone who adores middle grade novels over modern young adult titles because of their focus on the adventure and a variety of loves over the young adult's focus on burgeoning romantic love, this novel sits solidly in the realm of my adoration. The possible young love that does occur makes sense in the plot and feels natural in the pacing, but my true adoration lies with Meg and her relationship with Charles and their mother. The first direct mention of God was slightly jarring when I got to that part of the audiobook. It then dawned on me that one of the characters is angelic and that Judeo-Christian mythology already exists in threads throughout the book. The mix of physics, mysticism, and Christianity is really interesting. I find it really refreshing, despite the fact that this novel has been around for longer than I have. I like that many concepts can coexist to create a more accurate picture of life than one belief system would allow. It's a thought process accurate to life as well as a novel. I've already downloaded the audiobook for the second book in the series.

The only thing I dislike about the story is the misogyny in the way that Meg's twin brothers reprimand her for fighting another student at their school and how they try to boss their mother around about where she can cook, etc. as the men of the house while their father is away. Both are such strong yet emotionally self aware characters, and they deserve better.

Too christian for me. Basically thinly vailed cold war propaganda about good christian kids going on a scientific outer space adventure to fight evil communism. Writing is good but damn. Would not recommend reading it for the first time as an adult.

Simply put, a must read for adults and children alike. There's a reason this book is a classic and a reason it defies classification even today.
