this is still acomaf fanfic if they were gothic parisian vampires and YET it still has something distinct to this series that kept me invested. honestly, i think if you enjoyed once upon a broken heart this might be your cup of tea. they’re both atmospheric reads with morally grey mmc’s and fmc’s that can’t help but root for (and subsequently fall for) the redemption of everybody (and also love, naturally. these are some hopeless ass romantics).

this is also a duology that features a soft fmc and i loveeee it!! célie is the complete opposite of lou from serpent & dove, something i truly loved to see. i wish her newfound *strength* had been utilized more in all honesty

michal is one of the best characters ive read about in a MINUTE. he has angsty yearning down to a T and it is downright swoonworthy

Loved it. A perfect end to an amazing series, both the Serpent & trilogy and The Scarlet Veil-duology. The ONLY reason it´s not 5 stars is because of the ending. Was it a great ending, yes. Was it the ending I - personally - hoped for, no. But it didn´t change the fact that it was an amazing read!

Spin-offs never beat the originals, but this one is a total exception. The atmosphere is luscious. And Célie as a heroine, she's amazing, flaws and all. Plus, the romance has all my favorite tropes, and I was just straight-up fangirling. Honestly, it's the best romantasy I've read in a while.

It took me a moment to get back into the story, since it had been a while since I read part one and I had forgotten part of the plot. The pacing of the story also took a moment to take off, but then it was very fun and adventurous and engaging. The moment with Filippa at the end was beautiful to read and I enjoyed the romance between Célie and Michal.
