What a fun read. The beginning was a little slow for me but when it picked up, I was done with the book in no time. Can't wait to finish out the series.

Up to this point the strongest and most impressive of the series, for a few reasons.

One: it has the most interesting plotline/prophecy. It's the least predictable, and has the biggest twist up to this point in the series, which made it a much more tense and wild ride (even as somebody who's the read the series multiple times).

Two: It some of the most exciting character interactions and dynamics in the series so far, including a handful of growth moments, especially for Gregor as he slowly continues to learn and understand more of the world around him.

Three: this book varies from the formula of the first two books the most. There are still familiar characters, obviously, but there are also elements to the inciting incident of the book, the type of urgency of the quest, and even the resolution that are clearly different than the way they were in the first two books.

Definitely excited to continue. I remember the 5th book being a favorite of mine for a lot of reasons, so I'm anxious to get to that point.

This series is so good! This book starts to tackle some big ideas, like why wars happen and how hatred brings people to justify horrific actions. It is pretty dark, but in a way that I think kids can handle and is important for them to read. I can also see how these books were the building blocks that led Suzanne Collins to writing the Hunger Games. It's been so long since I've read these books that I don't remember how the series ends, but I'm really looking forward to reading the last two books!

I love this book and this series so much. The political intrigue is absolutely fantastic, and something I'm getting to appreciate more as in reading this as a 21-year-old instead of the 11-year-old i was when I first read them. The characters are amazing, the scenes are intense, and the story never stops moving for a moment.
