Sometimes it pays off when you judge a book by its cover! Going by nothing but the clean, fun cover, I ordered this book from the publisher and I'm so glad I did. The poet's voice is smart, considered, and frank, successfully tackling mental illness, anthropology & sociology, and the often tenuous relationship between a daughter and a father. These poems are full of winsome imagery, stories old and contemporary, weaving wit and conversation with deep but never sentimental emotion. They are earthy, with a subtle, subversive boldness, if such a thing can exist. This is a layered wandering, and an iridescent, mature debut.
Minor: Mental illness
