This book is my biggest inspiration. It illustrates the epitome of what I want to create as a writer and enjoy as a reader.

Kyung-Sook Shin is ultimately my favorite author. Her writing style is so detailed, thoughtful and intense. Her thorough relation with family and appreciation was so beautiful, I cried like a baby for the rest of the night after I finished this treasure. This novel really demonstrates the moments we often take for granted. Shin invites a reminder of the limited amount of time we have in this world. Therefore, we should respect each other, understand one another, and overall just appreciate those who love us.

Besides the greatness within the plot, the writing style is beautiful. Like I said earlier, it's so inclusive and vivid with imagery that it really makes you feel as though you yourself have actually lost your mother. Forcing you to feel the desperation the characters feel in their search for answers.

Everything about this novel makes me squeal because it made me realize the true art writing is.

The first half was utterly encapsulating, beautifully written and reflective. The last third got a bit lost on me and abstract timelines so I skimmed to the finish.

Changed my life

This book has changed my life! It is so very sad and beautifully written. The book helped me reflect upon my own life as I read about characters reflecting on theirs.
