I didn't hate this book as much as other reviewers. in fact I enjoyed it. right up until the improbable ending. it spoiled it a bit for me.

Most of the internal dialogue is complete nonsense. But I really enjoyed the story. Just don’t pick it apart too much or look for logic. Fun short read.

Claire has been invisible her whole life and overlooked by everyone. But then The Society, an institute that uses "Nobodies" to kill the dangerous "Nulls", becomes aware of Claire and Nix is sent to kill her. He is a Nobody and Nobody are forgettable, and they cannot arouse feelings in others. But when Nix sees Claire, he can't kill her. Because Claire looks directly at him, she notices him and no one has done that before. And the better the two get to know each other, the more Nix doubts The Society, because Claire is definitely not a Null.

I liked the story very much. In the third person, it is alternately written from the point of the two main portagonists Claire and Nix, both of whom I liked very much. I was able to empathize with the two of them very well and understand their actions and feelings. The end is a little too fast and unprepared to me, but I still enjoyed it very much.

"Less than shadow, less than air..."

Nix is a Nobody - a rare, enigmatic type of human capable of disappearing completely from the minds of all those around him. No one sees him. No one remembers him. And that's why the Institute has trained him to be an assassin. However, when tasked to kill Claire, everything he thought he was sure of begins to fracture.

I really liked the concept of this book and thought certain parts were written beautifully; however, outside of those, there was little that made the story memorable - it was largely a run-of-the-mill sci-fantasy with an overdose of YA romance. For the most part, I struggled to get to the end, and even then, the final chapters and epilogue were confusing and felt contrived. All in all, it had a lot of potential; it just felt incomplete and weighed down by lackluster execution.

Nix was cool, though.

If I had to read the words "Claire," "nobody," and "nothing," one more time, I probably would've shot myself. This book was very ambitious, that was one of the main reasons I wanted to read it. But goodness, once I started, I desperately wanted to stop. It became a void romance that just irked my nerves. Never again.

DID NOT FINISH: 13%

Very depressing language and I'm not sure I wanted to deal with that

I gave this book 4 stars because I don’t actually think it’s bad, but at times it was hard to follow. The flashbacks along with the changing point of views was difficult for me. I did like the meaning behind the book. I think it could have a been a bit better. The climax was only at the end, so the rest of the book is kind of you just cruising through. I didn’t not enjoy it though. I liked the ending and the connection the characters had. It did seem a bit fast though. I guess it has to be fast when people are trying to kill you. It wasn’t a “sigh worthy love story” though. It was a romance that moved quickly because of the “situation” - as Claire would call it- they were in. The book wasn’t all too bad though.

This book is not for everyone. The beginning was kinda slow but as I kept reading, I felt more invested. I love the romance between Nix and Claire. If you are a huge fan of fast paced and action in every other page, then this is not for you. Personally, I would rank this as one of my favorites. I love any book written by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
