Alok's Beyond the Gender Binary is a wonderful, quick read about the meaning of being non-binary, transgender, and/or gender non-conforming, and the joys and hardships that come with being your authentic self. Throughout this book, Alok expertly addresses and corrects stereotypes placed on the trans community by cis-heteronormative people, with grace and kindness. They share their own experiences, taking us through their journey of coming home to their true identity. From beginning to end, Beyond the Gender Binary feels like a warm hug to the trans community, chock-full of relatable anecdotes and positive, validating affirmations. I highly recommend this book for those who are trans or gender non-conforming as a reminder that we not only exist, but we are valid(!), but especially to any cisgender, cisnormative person wanting to learn more about their trans, non-binary, and GNC siblings.

Comforting, informative, inspiring, and validating all at once. Alok is an incredible human, and this is an invaluable resource that they have put into the world. They shared bits of their personal story and provided information about and challenges to think beyond binary gender. Anyone could benefit from reading this: trans people, family members and parents of trans people, queer people, trans allies.

A solid introduction to gender non-conformity but simplified & condensed a little too much.
