This was great - super readable, funny, and a good balance of respect for children and empathy for parents. I haven’t implemented counting yet, but will be after my husband watches the video. Felt very in line with my training as a child clinical psychology PhD student.

I gradually accumulated parenting books when the minion was younger and have been reading them as he has grown. This one just isn’t our parenting style or philosophy. I finished it because I’m interested in how the theory works and because I like to finish books when possible.

Things I’m not comfortable with include the idea of training our children and the kind of power dynamic inherent in this approach. My concern is what are the children learning from being counted and put in time out. Are they learning to self regulate and self express? I tried to read with an open mind but this isn’t the approach for me.

This was an interesting book with a different approach to discipline. The concept is simple and very easy to learn and implement. I have already started to use the 1-2-3 Magic technique with my girls.

It was ok. I didn't like the writing style. A lot of hype for basically counting to 3. But it had some good tips for parents.

I read this because my 3yo has been “regressing” since her grandfather recently passed away and the shrink my pediatrician referred me to recommended it. If this book works, and I really believe it will (the shrink referred to it as “the Bible”) then it is GENIUS. Simple enough, with practical advice and talk about common hurdles and how to overcome them. Definitely recommend.

This book was a bit antiquated and incredibly patriarchal. The offensive assumption that only a mother would be reading this book turned me off from it as soon as I read it.

We have been doing this method with my three-year-old for a couple of weeks now and it does seem to be helping. Some of the jokes and stories are a little hokey but if you are looking at it as a discipline guide, it works.
