God dang. This book was a lot more tragic than I remember it being back in middle school.

Wow. That was a lot. I obviously loved the Warriors world, seeing more of that is always good with me! I appreciate that this gave me so much insight into why Bluestar had some of the problems she had later in her life. (I’m still annoyed at her but I get it) My biggest problem with this book was the plot inconsistencies. Since I’ve read the other books so recently the handful of differences and such annoyed me quite a bit, I could overlook a few but the one with the kits? I don’t think her little talk with Whitestorm excuses how much her kits would have remembered her at least one of them, the journey to Sunning Rocks was quite traumatic so I really feel like it would not be forgotten plus they just forgot they had a sister??? Anyways sorry. See though? It bugged me a lot. Also the deaths that I definitely knew were coming every time, hit SO hard. Didn’t matter that I knew they were gonna die, I had puddles of tears.

Heartbreaking as usual. There was a lot to like about this book. It was so fun in the beginning seeing ThunderClan through a kit's eyes. I loved recognizing names of the warriors and elders from the mainline books and seeing those characters in their younger years. By the end of the first 6 book arc, I really struggled to connect with and respect Bluestar, but this book did a really good job of providing a deeper understanding of her backstory. She went through so much. I have a few new favorite characters, even if I'll never see them again, including Sunstar and Thrushpelt. I cried a few times through this book, some scenes were just so heart wrenching. All that being said, the pacing did feel a little off in some places and the time jumps were sometimes jarring which pulled me out of the story. I didn't feel like I couldn't put this book down, as I have felt with the other books so far, so while I enjoyed it, I'm giving it 3.5 stars.

Bluestar is everything and she deserves the world. Girlie has been through it. She can never have nice things. When she took her kits to RiverClan in the middle of a winter’s night to give them to Oakheart because she had to become deputy to save her clan from Thistleclaw’s evil ways and Mosskit froze to death, I cried. I also cried when her mom died and also when her sister died. These books give great depth and backstory that just makes the world feel so much more fleshed-out and makes me understand everything on another level. If Bluestar has no fans then I’m dead.
