This was Josie and Haeden story. I think it was meant to be kind of an enemies to lovers version of ice planet barbarians but there wasn’t a whole lot of passion or heat or attraction. They were just constantly miscommunicating with each other really just not communicating at all. A whole lot of the issues in these books could easily be resolved if one person would just try and have a conversation with the other person. They’re not communicating so they just keep fumbling over each others differences and they didn’t really feel like they liked each other at all. Which put a whole new layer to the khui. It was kind of gross how their mates are chosen whether they like it or not and this time they really didn’t seem to like it. I get by the end they were happy with the choice, but it just didn’t make a good love story to me.

Liked the others well enough but halfway through this one the characters were still so unhappy it felt more like a supernatural roofie story instead of fated mates. Perhaps more realistic in how people would actually react, but for me that just emphasized the non-consensual nature of the khui and gave me the ick.
