Entertaining early chapter book. The dog characters are charming and funny and the story line was cute. Great use of homophones too.

3.5 stars, because while I like that the book includes word bubble dialogue that corresponds to both Haggis and Tank (who's a girl dog, btw), I think that it can crowd the page more often than not and distract the reader from the overarching narration and the illustrations.

Additionally, while I like that Tank just continuously misinterprets words for their homophones, that trick also gets old quickly, for me anyway. It's definitely a good book to use with children who are ready for lots of words that may look or sound alike yet differ in meaning. This is where most of the humor of the book derives from, so if readers aren't yet ready for homonyms, they likely won't connect with this book.

Despite these critiques, I'd recommend!

Daniel says these dogs are like his dogs and that is why he loved this book.

Adorable story of two dogs who are trying to fill their boring day by being pirates on a hunt for treasure.
