Wtf was this. The FMC running around catching mates like Pokémon. Smh.

The first book was hokey but enjoyable. Not a literary masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but readable.

I have no idea what happened with this book. The dialogue was SO CRINGEY. This sentence killed me:

“Good girl,” Farron breathes. “And you too, Day. You’re a good boy feeding our girl your big cock. Look how hungry she is for you.”

If someone said that to me I’d die of secondhand embarrassment and/or laughter.

Finally mates with another one but the others don’t realize they’re mates yet. I finished this one but couldn’t continue because the conflict / war and the lack of resolution amongst all the characters are really dragging and I just can’t continue reading

Ah, there's the 'Why Choose' of this series. Hello, friend!
I have to say-as someone who wasn't a fan of why choose-I'm enjoying this series. I'm still a little confused about how some things work, but the overall story is still really good!

Characters: Keldarion - He has personality! Thank god! I was not feeling him in the first book. I still don't like him more than the others, but as least we got something out of him this time. THe struggle he had about everything actually fit, and I started to understand. However, at this point...just give in. There are so many signs that what he is afraid of is already a thing. I thought some of the info was well known, so I'm confused as to why no one has put 2 & 2 together yet.
Farron - Yas, sir! That confidence glow up was amazing! I'm so proud of him. What he went through to get there sucked, but it made him who he became. He has a lot of complicated relationships, which gave him issues. The way Rosalina and the others helped him untangle them really showed the found family he had with them.
Dayton - I love that we get these moments with Dayton where he's not all about 'fucking anything that breathes'. He has limits and that just made me love him more. He genuinely cares about Farron and Rosalina, and the others. He is probably the loneliest out of all of them given the way he acts. He just wants the best for everyone, probably at his own expense too. I can't wait to dive into his story.
Ezryn - Ezryn is just feckin' adorable! This suit-man and his wants just blunder through life. He's so put together, but not at the same time. He has his own demons, like the others, but his armor adds a layer of protection against that and more. He's just as damaged as the others and he tries so had to be everyone's rock. I am just chomping at the bit for when his mate bond opens.
Caspian - I need him and Rosalina to give in. I need it so bad. You cannot tell me that he's not included. The tension is so palpable you can cut it with a knife. He is such a dick, but in the best ways. His relationship with the princes is complicated, but also so obvious. You can tell there is so much more to him and what is going on, and no one wants to see it. I absolutely feckin' love this man! I literally cannot wait for whatever his story will send my way.
Rosalina - Rosalina has stalled a little for me, in this book. I still feel like what she did helped the story and other characters, but she herself just lacked development. She got a little more confident, but not enough that it made a difference. I don't know, I just didn't really feel anything towards her. That doesn't necessarily bother me-there are a lot of books in this series-but I was hoping for a sprinkle of...something.

Plot: It's always some kind of war in fantasies. Total devastation and pain! I like how it was pieced together and how everything led to the next. But the amount of chapters with the big fight had me doubting they would ever get the upper hand. It was brutal! It almost felt like too much, but not at the same time. Also, I desperately want all the bonds to be open. Like, bad. I'm so impatient.

Overall: I am gobbling this up! I never thought I would enjoy a 'Why Choose', but here I am. I like all the characters, the story is interesting, and I love the relationships between everyone. It's a spicy good time, I may read the next one sooner rather than later. I'm excited to see where this goes!
