It's such a great sequel! I honestly loved everything about it! The spice! WHOA! It did ratchet up.

Seriously, though, the world building, the characters, everything makes this series engaging. The only reason I didn't devour it in one sitting is because me and my work bestie were reading it together so we could chat, sighs, complain, squeal. Yeah, this book as done all of that!

So, second book and yes, Ezryn is still my favourite! I love this fae so much! He's perfect! ARGH! I really, REALLY love this series but now I have to wait half a year! Sadness!

The second in the Beasts of the Briar series mainly focuses on Farron who has to discover how to stop something terrible that is affecting the Autumn Realm. The blame is being placed on the High Prince of Winter, Keldarion, who has rejected Rosalina and sent her back to the human realm. Rosalina must get back to her princes and halt the threat of winter encroaching on the Autumn Realm.

This book is much chunkier than the first and I loved it. After the first ended on a cliffhanger with Rosalina sent back home, I couldn't wait to read what happens next and I was very excited to delve back into the Enchanted Vale.

Like the first, it's definitely fun and easy to read and hard to put down. I was entertained all throughout and it was great to see more of the fae realm, particularly the Autumn Realm where Farron has to step up to his title and take charge of the threat to his realm.

Farron definitely grew in this book which was very satisfying because he started off as such an awkward and timid character, which is why he was cursed. To see him finally accept himself, find his voice and lead, was a gratifying moment.

Kel is still frosty and rather than explain why he has rejected Rosalina, continues to be as confusing towards her as ever - one moment giving her affection, and then snubbing her in the next. He's not a good mate to Rosalina but I'm glad she does get some affection and intimacy in this book from the other princes; her relationships with the other three progresses, though her relationship became a bit strained with Day so I'm interested to see where this goes.

The Prince of Thorns makes more of an appearance in this book which I loved because he's definitely a very intriguing character with some secrets we have yet to discover! Getting to see the Below was such a fantastic bit of the book and the consequences that followed.

Loveable characters, an easy-to-get-lost-in story with a compelling plot and some delicious romance, Woven By Gold is enjoyable and full of magic and charm.

Just as I suspected, once I was able to separate Belle from Rose - the books got much better. I love this series and it stands on its own. No need to tie it BATB in the first place. If the subtle nods to the movie weren't there in the first book, I may have never hated the series at all. Lots of people get trapped in orbits of people who resemble Lucas. But Belle would never. Ever. I didn't hate Rose for being drawn to Lucas in that way- I myself have given too much of myself to a man who saved my life. Its an important story to be told. I just hated the thought of Belle being stripped of her character and losing herself and thinking that she's supposed to love Gaston. But, with the second book, It starts to become so much easier to separate Beasts of the Briar from Beauty and the Beast. I'm appreciating the story that Rose is here to tell much more easily now. I don't have complaints from the second book. The third has already begun. My fav part of the 2nd was of course
after Rose bonds with Fare and they go to Dayton. Gagged. So hot.

Summary

Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

Spicy rating:

3 is generous. 2.5 honestly. I still feel that the narrative could be more complex and nuanced from a political standpoint, given there seems to be some thought into the world building, but the characters still feel a little one dimensional and need more motive apart from romance and sex to drive them across the plot. It’s ok. Not bad but not life changing, easy enough to read to pass the time. If you close your eyes (figuratively speaking) and just think of it as beauty and the beast inspired fan fiction, you wouldn’t be as disappointed, because it definitely reads as such. Better than the 1st one coz the 1st really made me angry more than anything. At least with this sequel, I wasn’t as mad.
