Not smutty enough, messy characters made a lot of bad decisions. I like paranormal romance mysteries but this was more paranormal than the other two.

The main character feels one dimensional, and there was no point where she felt authentic or interesting.

definitely feeling "you're not good you're not bad you're just nice" bc this wasn't the best. i listened to it as an audiobook and i loved Native American representation and how they talked about the Native American experience in a book very much not focused on the fact the characters were Native American. (not enough diverse books that are just fun and lighthearted and not just stories focusing on the pain of minorities)

however, they were prioritizing boning WAY too much, like there's a fricking ghost and your in a haunted castle there's no way you're turned on and need to hit it RIGHT now

*edit* after some deliberation, turns out i didn't really like the book, but felt bad rating it lower than 3 stars. 2.5 is more than generous

Although creepy, I never really understood the actual tension/ticking clock this book suggests exists. Smut is appropriately smutty, even if timing of when they hook up is weird lol

This one hits a solid mid-rating for me. I was entertained and enjoyed the overall story. I would have liked more back story on the mansion and ghosts - a dual timeline here would have been very interesting. The steamy scenes felt off for a reason I’m not exactly able to articulate. Character development was a bit lacking. To me, this reads as more of a spooky cozy romance, just lightly spooky and not overly romancey either. This will definitely not be everyone’s cup of tea.

The way he touches the scar she gave him like he’s touching her was WILD BRO.

This book was S...L...O...W...

And honestly, the big reveal for the haunting was lackluster. The romance was okay. I think I'm just not a person who enjoys being in the characters heads this much. Listening to the FMC's internal monologue on why she was suddenly having feelings for the MMC just wasn't interesting to me. (honestly, she said why at least 6 times in one paragraph).

Ok so I have mixed feeling about this one. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great. While parts of it were a little graphic and gory I don’t think I would label this as horror. I did enjoy the narrators which gave this is that extra half of the rating.

I just never wanted to actually pick it up.  I also didn't really vibe with the main characters unfortunately.  I probably could pick this back up around Halloween time.

Rival authors Neil and Pen are shocked to find they’re spending a week together in a remote haunted location as part of a very small writer’s retreat. They’ve had a rocky past, but a mutual friend has roped them into a situation they literally cannot escape. Writing takes a backseat to investigating the paranormal occurrences as these two are repeatedly thrown into situations by themselves. The story is set over the course of just a few days, but it is still a bit of a slow burn in terms of the book itself with most of the action between Neil and Pen happening after the 60% mark.
