I disliked this book for the exact same reasons that everyone else does ☺️ (fwiw, verbally attacking someone at a public, work event is wild enough, but to also physically assault that same person AND THEN have the audacity to be angry with THEM about the consequences you rightfully faced is completely unacceptable behavior.)
I really kept waiting for her to realize she had gone too far and apologize, but by about the fifth double-down, I gave up. There is a way to admit that you were wrong in how you handled a situation while still maintaining that what you said is valid. I am very sad i dnf'd before I got to the ghost cum, but we must all make sacrifices for the greater good.

This book has everything anyone could want for a spooky romance! From an in-depth ghost background story to spicy scenes in a haunted castle, this story has it all. I really loved that the focus of this story was on two rival writers, both of whom were Indigenous and whose cultures were major parts of their identity. It was a serious slow burn, enemies to lovers, forced proximity romance more so than a horror/paranormal novel. Despite how much I enjoyed, I also had several issues with the writing of this story, mainly with a lack of tying up some minor loose ends and the pacing. There were times that reading this flew by for me, but others were dragged on and felt like this could’ve been a few dozen pages shorter. Overall, I enjoyed the elements of humor balanced by seriousness of paranormal activities, and if you enjoy some spice this definitely has it!

I wanted to love this so much but it just didnt mesh well as a whole story.
The mystery was a let down and it didnt make a lot of sense and I kinda wanted it to be over.
The romance kinda felt out of left field and took way to long to happen. Everything happen at the end and by the time we got there I was ready for the next book.
But the biggest disappointment was the ghost part of it and why.
Thank You NetGalley for this Audio Arc in Exchange for my honest Opinions.

Advertised as an enemies to lovers romance with a spooky twist. With promises of spooky chills and even more sexy thrills. Two feuding writers end up on a writers retreat together at a haunted castle in Scotland. Months after horror author Penelope Skinner threw a book at Neil Storm, a bestselling author of horror novels that claimed to break Native stereotypes. Penelope Skinner is now a publishing pariah and hasn't been able to write a word since. When a close friend invites her on a writers retreat in a haunted Scottish castle, she jumps at the opportunity. Unfortunately, Penelope unleashed some serious self-doubt in Neil and he’s now terrified to write another bestselling "book without a soul," as Pen called it. Neil seeks to find inspiration, whilst completely avoiding the infuriating Penelope Skinner.
As the retreat begins, Pen and Neil find themselves trapped in a real-life ghost story and an attraction neither expected.
I was originally drawn in by the cute cover, the idea of a romantic horror, with enemies to lovers. I will say the horror scenes were well written, and gave the perfect amount of hair raising creepiness. Unfortunately I felt the characters fell a little flat. I never felt a connection with any of the characters. There was too much repetition at times, and the dialogue felt a little stilted. This book took me far too long to finish, and I really had to push myself to get through it. The reading block was real. In conclusion, this book sadly just wasn’t for me.

There are too many inconsistencies and tbh annoying characters. I was excited to read indigenous rep but aside from the characters saying they are native that’s it. Also no way a Scot woman would be called Fanny. Bestie. Be so for real. That’s what they call female genitalia 🥴
Enemies to lovers spicy romance at a haunted Scottish castle??? Sign me up.
I absolutely devoured this book. Literally couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting (accidentally stayed up until 3am, whoops).
I think the author does a great job giving us a spicy romance while also bringing heart pounding horror. My biggest complaint overall is that the resolution to the haunting is pretty meh, but the romance was sweet (albeit a bit fast) so that made up for it.
The story had a bit of a slow start for me. It took a few chapters before I really got into it. I will also say that all of the characters definitely have flaws that get frustrating/repetitive. I've seen some reviews mention that the relationship was toxic but I disagree with that. I think that they have flaws and react in very human ways. Both of the MCs learn how to face their pasts and grow from their mistakes. Also great BIPOC and queer representation.
