If I Stopped Haunting You by Colby Wilkens is a thriller rom-com set at a castle in Scotland. I would give this book a 3/5 on the spicy scale. It has some really great spice scenes throughout the book. I was really excited about the concept of a romance with a horror backdrop, however this book didn't fully meet my expectations. I felt like the author had to continually remind us of the enemies to lovers trope even though it was obvious. All spooky scenes were immediately followed by smut which didn't seem appropriate at the time. It might just be me but if I end up in a haunted castle and start seeing ghosts I'm not doing the dirty two seconds later. Overall, there was just a lot trying to happen in this book and I feel like everything was done 65% of the way. The ghost story felt very forced and at times didn't make any sense. It seemed like there were connections trying to be made that never ended up connecting to anything. I would have liked to have had the other characters more involved in the ghost plot as well.
The prologue where the FMC assaults the MMC and never apologizes (somehow seems to think she’s the victim?) was off-putting and once I got into the first few chapters, it was written in such a way that I constantly feel sort of confused. Like I’m missing every other page. This is a pass for me.
I loved the Scottish castle setting of this story and really got swept away by the atmosphere. However, I found the enemies to lovers timeline too fast to be believable, and I wanted a lot more from the ghost/spooky elements. Overall the story was enjoyable, but fell a bit flat at a few points.
This book had me on my toes! I felt like I was on a roller-coaster. It was fast, slow and back to frightening fast. The banter between the main two characters was addicting. The characters were all so interesting. I could picture being their friends. The story line was so good I couldn't put the book down. I really enjoy the way the author wrapped everything up and left no questions unanswered.
This is fine; it's a solid listen if you're looking for something by an Indigenous author with spooky and romantic vibes for the season. While I wish the romantic moments and chemistry had felt less forced, I enjoyed the gothic setting of the castle and some of the supernatural horror Colby Wilkens imbues in the story.
This was such a cute cozy romance with a little mystery with a haunted castle. It has a lot of heart and sheds a light on the difficulties that bipoc authors can go through. Really loved that both the MMC and FMC are Native Americans. Enemies to lovers and rivals to lovers with forced proximity is a favorite of mine for sure and this one did not disappoint.
Wasn’t into it and the current controversy left a bad taste in my mouth.
I didn't love this book. I love horror and I love romance, so this seemed like it would be a fun read.
However. I thought it was formulaic and silly, and I didn't particularly like any of the main characters. The ghost story was lame, and I actually skimmed over the last few chapters because I felt no emotional investment at all.

Something about the sentence structure keeps throwing me. Also took me way too long to figure out the cat's name and I'm mad at myself.
Did not/could not finish! This book starts with our female lead throwing a tantrum and hurling her book at a fellow writer during a conference panel, making him BLEED, and she makes herself into the victim! She whines and complains aboutbthe consequences of her own actions and losing her publisher.
THEN when they are put into a forced proximity situation she doesn't apologize and continues to blame him for making her mad because he wrote a book she found to be a bad representation of native Americans (they are both native btw). She uses her status as a woman in publishing and a native ameeican to claim she is essentially too oppressed to take accountability for her physically assaulting him. If the genders were reversed, no publisher would even dream of publishing this. She is entirely insufferably written. I love a good bitch in romance, why should only sweet demure girls get the HEA? But they need to be interesting and she was just a whiny, poorly written brat.
