I really enjoyed this book... except for the alcohol cabinet disrespect... Buuuuuut, the ending was super confusing and disappointing. Starting somewhere around chapter 29. The whole 'we have to get Neil to the hospital' sequence was so out of nowhere and no one was acting natural before or during that. And the ghosts... what the hell??? What in the world was Georgina's reason for being trapped in this world? What made her move on? One last ghost f*ck with her man? Why could they not accomplish this in the after life? I am so confused why she was haunting the place.
Upon discovering the author was dishonest about her heritage and posed as an Indigenous person, I will not leave a full review any longer. Before I found that information, the book was still incredibly problematic.

This has, without a doubt, the worst opening scene of any romance in existence. These characters suck so bad, the writing is awful, I can't believe anyone finished this book.
Lying about being native aside, this book was just BAD!
Penelope was actually horrible - she was mean and so jealous of neil that it manifested in terrible behaviour. I don’t get how she can throw a book at his head on a panel at a conference and then be upset with HIM when people hate her for it. Girl you’re violent!
The ghost storyline was not that interesting? How it unfolded was boring and uninventive.
Also you could really tell that Penelope was self insert for Colby. Pen is not enrolled in a nation and neil (who is) spends a lot of time validating her indigeniety for it. sometimes tribes have criteria for you to meet to be a member because there a lot of people with no ancestry who claim they’re indigenous (is it a day that ends in Y? I’m sure some white person is claiming they’re cherokee)
This is the problem with people who view being indigenous as an identity! It’s not. Calling yourself indigenous is how you say you belong to a people and that these people claim you back. Off my soapbox!!
A pass for me! I have the arc of If I Dig You… the cherokee gold book…yeah..that one. I’m sure it’ll be just as bad.

I really enjoyed this. I thought it was cozy and mysterious. Penelope has great banter and is pretty funny. I have to say I want a huge fan of the ghost mystery part of the story. If felt a little anti climatic and unimportant to the characters story other than being the backdrop for the forced proximity but I really did enjoy this. Great October read

Problematic author. fMC assaulting the MMC without taking any accountability, romance was cringey and the insta love was unenjoyable.
This book was on my radar for a while and I thought it sounded good. Plus why not support a fellow bookstagrammer? From the very beginning, this book was a big NO for me. I didn’t really enjoy most of this book including the male narrator. The premise, setting, and little bit of spooky mystery part had potential. But that’s where that stopped. Disappointed doesn’t event begin to cover how I felt about this book. P.S: I almost DNF’d it at 50% but it was going so fast, I figure why not finish and see if it gets better. Spoiler alert: it didn’t. 🙃

The horror was pretty much non-existent and the romance was unbelievable and immature. The whole story felt clunky. I didn’t care for either main character and the side characters could've been entirely plucked out with little to no effect on the story. I finished this because it truly sounded like it checked all the boxes for something I’d be interested in and I was certain it had to get better. I wish I’d DNF’d this a couple of chapters in.

Super fun and super hot! Rival authors show up to a writing retreat to get inspiration, not know that either of them would be there. Whoops! Also, it’s in a haunted castle in Scotland. Like really haunted. Between writing activities and scary encounters, Pen and Neil talk and work out their shit. And then they talk, and make out, and bone. And then get more haunted as they slowly unravel the mysteries of the castle’s past! Their bickering and bantering were fun, and they were so gone for each other and stubborn about it! Really loved!
