2.5 rounded up.
Short version:
Jules is a bangin’ independent woman with a great character arch. Josh is a pathetic loser.
Long version:
This was going to be a 4-5 stars for me until about chapter 41. This book did not want to fucking end. The last 15 chapters were just loose ends the author was desperately trying to tie up (and using the same phrases over and over again). Of course it’s an Ana Huang book so it was super immature, dramatic, ridiculous, and cliché with mediocre smut. It was better than twisted love but a whole lot worse than twisted games IMO.
What was with the whole chapter being dedicated to telling Ava? What are they, in middle school? For God’s sake, grow up.
Oh- and at first I loved the mention of Jules having painful periods/possible endometriosis and was enjoying the representation. But after the whole 2 pages including it, I realized it was a failed attempt to be inclusive. As someone with endometriosis myself, it was disappointing that the author used it as a way to force a bonding moment between Jules and Josh and then just dropped it after that. No more pain or period for the next 6 months? No painful sex? Yeah, okay. But nice try, I guess.
And Josh- dear God what a loser. He reminds me of a “hot, more tolerable” version of a cocky bastard from college I couldn’t stand (Lyss, if you know you know). I don’t find the ego thing attractive at all- and then what he did in the scene where he lies to her and has sex with her just to throw her out of his house- WTF? To me, that’s unredeemable. Sure, she made a mistake, but it was just from dumb high-school drama. Get over yourself already, dude.
Overall, I was disappointed, and probably won’t read twisted lies. If I could describe the whole series in one word it would be “ridiculous”.

Rating: 3.5
I really enjoyed this book, but I do have some complaints. I feel like a lot of the book just went by and there wasn’t much to it. They weren’t together and then they were together etc. There wasn’t enough meat in it I suppose. It was still a good read and I enjoyed their story. This book wasn’t something I craved to pick up though which was definitely a let down.

It was a good read. I enjoyed all the tension between the two characters. They tried so hard not to fall for each other, but eventually they did. A good enemies - to enemies with benefits - to lovers story.
Not a bad read? It’s super smutty and quite dark also. Both MCs have a lot of emotional baggage. Idk it’s just nothing special honestly. MMC is an asshole on the surface but somehow also this kind, sweet and considerate man, with big biceps. FMC is feisty and fierce, but also ambitious and caring.
There were some moments tgt that were rly very sweet tho and lowkey had me spazzing. Especially that part when Josh flew to Jules’s hometown to accompany her with handling her mother’s funeral, when he was supposed to go on his long-awaited vacation trip. Or how he always so conveniently appears at the right time to save her lol.
There were also a few parts I didn’t like: first was the breakup (which I’ve come to realise it’s like mandatory in almost every other romance story? Like why though?). I was so ANGRY at Jules for continuing to hide the fact that she was being blackmailed by her ex, and instead of just confessing that her ex wants her to steal a painting from his home, she freaking STAGES A BURGLARY. I- in what WORLD!! Is that a logical step?? Omfg. I had a brain aneurysm just reading this whole scenario go down. She enters Josh’s home with a spare key and intentionally messed the place up and stole a few valuables to make it believable. And poor dude genuinely panicked and thought his house had been robbed. Idk why she didn’t just come clean, like honestly what was the worst that cld happen? He breaks up with her and she doesn’t get the painting (but if she decides to break in aft this happens THAT MAKES MORE SENSE). But nope she did all that! Rly some serious communication breakdown here. Like wouldn’t a more logical next step to be to sit down and tell him about ur whole past and dilemma, like what makes u think building a rs on lies and omission would last ugh. GROW UP.
Anyway, she does confess all of it in the end, and ofc Josh feels v betrayed and blind-sided, so he has a meltdown and basically HAS FORCEFUL SEX WITH HER AND THEN THROWS HER ASIDE AND BASICALLY SAID THAT THAT WAS ALL SHE WAS GOOD FOR. The way my jaw dropped aft that went down (besides the fact that this part was hard to read cuz he was so clearly using her, and the whole thing just felt so forced and unpleasant). Context is that she used to sleep around (honestly same as he did) so he throws this insecurity back at her. Lol toxiccccccc.
The other part I just didn’t like either was how Josh is supposed to be this alpha masculine aggressive figure, BUT ONLY IN BED?? He doesn’t exhibit such tendencies in everyday life, like he’s not exactly v violent/possessive/straight-up one foot in a jail cell type of behavior, so it’s damn jarring when he does a 180 turn and starts being this whole IM GOING TO DOMINATE TF OUT OF U in bed persona. It was just TOO MUCH.
Ok but nonetheless, it was still a pretty enjoyable read and I finished it quite fast, it’s the kind that u can’t rly put down. Also ok side note but the cover is damn scary lol, esp on my kindle when the pixels aren’t exactly v bright. I scared myself a few times seeing this on my bed, wondering what horror book I selected but then oh wait nvm lol. Also also, although it can be read as a standalone, in a series would be better I feel, cuz there’s more to each character and it does keep alluding to prev books.

Twisted Hate follows the intense relationship between Josh Chen, soon to be a doctor and Jules Ambrose, ambitious law student. Their animosity is palpable, but when their frustration boils over during one night, Josh proposes a non strings attached arrangement with 3 rules, no jealousy, no strings and no falling in love.
Despite their efforts to keep things casual, emotional and physical lines blur. If you're into enemies to lovers romance, full of chemistry and snappy banter, Twisted Hate delivers.
