A Breezy read to an astonishing tale.
It's a short read, and surprisingly easy to read. A few times I didn't fully understand some locations, and/or sections of the ships that drifted apart, but other than that it read like a rip rolling adventure novel with details. The descriptions of that fateful night are great and impressive.

When reading this book, its almost easy to forget this is nonfiction. The story is an amazing tale of bravery and survival. The authors did a wonderful job!
Happened to finish this book while on the Cape, in February, near same time as the events described in the book. Now I want to drive out to Orleans to see the CG36500 - will save that trip for a summer visit. I'd recommend this for readers looking for Cape history or of The Perfect Storm. The authors, with many personal details of the men at the heart of the story and precise information on what happened to the ships, have written a compelling history of this unbelievable rescue.

For such an exciting premise, this book was ridiculously boring. The narrative gets bogged down by irrelevant details and backstory (I really don't need to know the entire history of a character's childhood hometown) and it's hard to keep track of the characters while four separate rescue missions are in progress.
I ordered this book after having seen the movie, which I watched without even knowing there *was* a book. I will say that I loved the movie, but there was so much more to the story. So much more.
I was literally (yes, literally -- not figuratively) smiling, cringing, and even jumping at some of the events that were described in this story. It is fantastically told and, even better, contains real heroes.

Amazing subject matter, reads a little bit like someone’s extraordinarily well-researched history paper.
I love the story of the rescue of the Pendleton, but there sure was a number of serious deviations from the rescue to wade through before we even got there.
Amazing victories but very disconnected storytelling.
My intention was to read the book and then see the movie, but I think I'm a little late. It was a good story about one of the most famous Coast Guard rescues in history.
