I read this book almost in one sitting (had to eat breakfast & do dishes just after I started) -- it's been a while since I've done that. I'm beginning to think I really like books about magical circuses, after loving Night Circus and now this. This book is for kids, though, as opposed to Night Circus. But I enjoyed it and its simplicity nonetheless. I may be old but I like the idea of believing in magic. Also, I really love the love been Micah and his grandfather and the friendship between Micah and Jenny. (I tend to see myself more as a Jenny so I like her bit of transformation.)
Circus Mirandus is a book that everyone should read. I was transported back to a magical place that all children dream of. I loved Micah and his true friendship with Jenny. His sweet grandfather Ephraim was unforgettable, as well as all the amazing sights at Circus Mirandus. This will definitely be a book I reread and use in my classroom.
Micah and his grandfather bave a close connection and when his grandfather begins to reminisce about Circus Mirandus, Micah believes him. This story is told from Micah's point of view, along with flashbacks to his grandfather's visit. I loved the magic in this story. We also all need a friend like Jenny. She supports Micah and helps him through his adventures to find Circus Mirandus.
This book is pretty great! Aside from the aunt who just had her dreams shattered as a child, thus making her an unbearable adult, it's pretty good stuff. The story is inspirational and makes you believe in magic, makes you believe anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I really enjoyed the friendship between Jenny and Micah, and how he got her to believe in impossible things. The overall mystery and intrigue of the circus keeps you engaged the whole time, trying to figure out what exactly this miracle might be.
I really enjoyed this story. I love books about magic. Micah is a little boy whose grandfather is dying. His great aunt Gerturdis comes to love after her dying brother and Micah. Micahs Grandfather once visited a circus and fell in love with the Amazonian Bird Lady. Such a lovely story about the love between grandchild and grandparent, how one event can make you bitter for the rest of your life, and faith. Will definitely look for more from this author.
Solid story about the power of love, magic, and friendship. Think The Night Circus but for kids.
Circus Mirandus by Cassie Beasley is the first of a series (book 2 was just released earlier this month, October).
Do you believe in magic? Micah, thanks to the stories the grandfather whose raised him has told him, definitely does. When Micah’s grandfather descends into poor health his unsympathetic great aunt arrives to care for the both of them while showing how much she does not want to be there.
Grandpa Ephraim has one last shot at a miracle, when he was a boy Circus Mirandus called to him and he was promised a miracle from the Lightbender. He’s ready to call upon the Lightbender for his miracle and Micah is going to help him, and get the adventure of the lifetime in the meanwhile.

This is a beautiful middle grade book told in alternating chapters for a bit from both Micah and Grandpa Ephraim, when he was younger and his interactions with the circus. It’s a story about family and friendship, love and loyalty, belief and magic. Micah may think he knows what his grandpa is asking for but he’s going to learn a lot more important things before the story is done.

I really enjoyed the characters and world of Circus Mirandus! It was a fun, quick read, and a sweet story about finding your place in unexpected places. While it wasn't as atmospheric as the Night Circus, I can definitely understand why people compare the two.
