I loved this one!! Will definitely be posting a longer review on the blog...

I love it when a book meets your expectations! I chose this book based on a review I read http://mrschureads.blogspot.com.au/2015/06/happy-book-birthday-to-circus-mirandus.html and was wholeheartedly satisfied. It is a book filled with magic, wonder and amazing characters. Micah & Grandpa Ephraim are sweet and wonderful (and very reminiscent of Charlie & Grandpa Joe), whilst Jenny Mendoza is the friend we all wish we had at school. Aunt Gertrudis may be your stereotypical villain, but even she gets a little bit of unexpected (for me at least) back story part way through the book.

Highly recommended.

Another one of my cover notes. The version I read had the cover shown on this page http://www.chickenhousebooks.com/books/circus-mirandus/ ...and I infinitely prefer the big-top-striped version above. Why do publishers insist on changing these things?

I had a lot of fun reading this. The plot moves quickly and the mix of magical circus life along with a non-magical 'real world' make it an engaging read. Common tropes are here: boy loses both parents at a young age, raised by grandad, grandad gets very sick, horrible great-aunt comes in to take care of boy, boy makes new friend who helps him access adventures (such as circus). These tropes are common for a reason though, they reflect certain fears and challenges for young children. As an adult they are more obvious but they didn't take away from my enjoyment when reading the book. I'd recommend it for late primary grades.

3.5

Middle grade book about magic, but also had some hard stuff in there too. Cute read.

I accidentally read the 2nd in the series "Bootlace Magician" before this one, but it did not stop me from giving 5 stars to both. I love these books SO MUCH!

Just like many other circus books I have fallen in love with this story it is a fun and deep read all at the same time I was crying one page and laughing out loud the next! A must read for any circus lovers!

DID NOT FINISH

A big thank you to the Penguin booth at C2E2 for this ARC!

Simply put, this book is a little slice of magic. It's a beautiful, enchanting story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm eager to share it with my son and see if he likes it as much as I did.

Hopefully Cassie Beasley will have many more stories to share with us in the future!
