maybe the most cringe book i have ever read but not cringe in an internet point in laugh way, cringe in a this is a super heavy topic u naturally want to recoil from
written incredibly well and leaves u with a need to just Think About It once youre done. this book and the movie directed by Gregg Araki are both incredibly well made and if you felt one of them was worthwhile i strongly checking out the other. i finished the book in one setting and enjoyed (if u can call it that) every second of it
its just a super hollowing read. incredibly draining. could not recommend it more

Incredibly upsetting but couldn’t put it down. The subject matter is horrific but the writing style and the focus on different characters’ perspectives made it super easy to get through (I read this in 11 days!!!). I really recommend this book but it’s super confronting.
Watched the movie for the first time several years ago and immediately added it to my “let’s get uncomfortable” letterboxd list. I haven’t watched it since but keen to watch it again soon.

A very well done exploration of how two people can respond drastically differently to the same trauma.
Shockingly realistic and difficult to digest but each page was worth the time it took to read

Oh god what do I even say about this? This is probably one of the best books I’ve ever read, but I know I’ll never be able to read it again. The raw intensity of emotion and vulnerability in all of its forms gripped me from the start, and the characters themselves were so multifaceted and flawed that it’s hard to not want to hug them and shield them from the pains they’ve endured. A truly challenging, emotional yet somehow necessary read, vaguely reminiscent of “The Sweet Hereafter” , but non-self indulgent and powerfully realistic.
