DNF
Offft. This just kind of bombed for me.
I liked book 1 and the unique world that the story takes place in, however we don’t actually get much world building at all. Where Diem was likeable in book 1, I really struggled to find anything likeable about her in book 2.
Disappointing.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ SECOND BOOK SYNDROME
Glow of the Everflame was a mixed bag for me. I still find Diem insufferable, and the progression in this one was painfully slow. There was so much talking that it felt like the plot barely moved at all—classic second book syndrome. That said, the last third really redeemed it. It was exciting, emotional, and once Diem finally came into her own, the whole story lit up in a way I wish had been present from the start. If the earlier chapters had matched that energy, this could have been a standout.

3.75 ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
I didn’t hate this book, but I didn’t love it. A majority of the story was really entertaining, and I enjoyed reading it, however, I felt like a good chunk of this book was just filler. I understand that she was trying to get us to really feel where Diem was at in her life for her to have her redemption arc at the end, but I would’ve liked the redemption arc to be the last 200 pages not the last 75. I also felt like a certain characters just don’t have really any point to be in there. They don’t drive the story forward and they don’t help the characters grow or develop further. A.k.a. Henri. Like he should’ve just died. Lol sorry but true.
I also could not handle how awful she was to Luther compared to everybody else all the time. It just felt like really unnecessary and also didn’t help to drive the plot forward. It felt like we were constantly in a circle. I also don’t understand like really why her mom is such an important figure. Like I know she is, but she only has an appearance at the very end of the book and it seems like she’s kind of evil? I’m really debating if I want to continue with the series because I don’t think I could handle another book like the second one.
And what was that with her powers? Like she literally just could do nothing the entire book. I read 500 pages of her basically doing nothing the whole time. I was hoping that we would get a lot of magic the second book. Because it wasn’t something we had a lot of in the first one. But unfortunately, I was disappointed.
