“You are my Queen, and I am your sword. Point me at your enemies, and watch them fall.”

THE YEARNING IN THIS BOOK HURTS MY HEART. Luther must be protected at all costs.

This book was definitely better than the first one. Diem still pisses me off and being in her head is actually painful. She’d dumb as hell and she needs therapy. A lot of it. The other characters introduced in this book really saved it.  I’m such a sucker for a found family.

The actual plot was slow going and repetitive but the end made up for it. Also I’m so sick and tired of the miscommunication and misunderstanding. JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER, PEOPLE. GOD DAMN. ARE WE IN HIGH SCHOOL? I’m so over Diem always interrupting people when they are trying to tell her important shit. I get that it the author is doing it on purpose to make the book more “interesting” but holy fuck is it annoying. Diem just shut up for one god damn second.

Please Diem have more character growth in the next book. I beg.

Fuck you Henri.

“The true measure of strength is not in the lives we take, but in the lives we save.”

Sidebar - I totally knew it. But also, what the fuck?

I felt that it dragged at times, and Diem kind of annoyed me but i love Luther so much and the ending had me hooked again so I will be reading the next one.

Refresher for future me:
  • The book ended with aurielles pov. She had planted a bomb in the temple where all the crowns were meeting and was watching it go off with Vance, the leader of the rebels when she found out that Diem is queen
  • I think Luther and Diem are on good terms now. He did pretty publicly offer to sacrifice himself for her so you gotta hope that means something
  • She doesn’t tknow who killed her father yet
  • She also told Luther to turn down Ileana’s proposal so that will probably face some retaliations
  • She is meaning to turn down Henry’s proposal but she hasn’t seen him yet

like everytime i was annoyed with her i remembered all her trauma and how much miscommunication blurred lines there was and it made it slightly better but i really need some dirty fucking in the next book and we’ll really start to pick up the pace
