One of her best

First I want to say I love everything that Gina Showalter has ever written so I was super excited when I heard she had a new book out. I absolutely loved everything about it I loved the characters I loved the story line and I especially love the meaning behind it. It was absolutely fantastic

I really wanted to like this book. It had such a captivating premise. But after months of struggle and not getting past 40 percent, I had to DNF. It just felt it hasn't been polished enough in all honesty, and it was messy and confusing. I couldn't keep track of what was going on with characters and what they were doing/thinking. I also had no interest in them. It's a real shame.
adventurous medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This book took a hold of my interest fast and stayed that way through the end. 9th grade and up, it's a good read. I'll be excited to read the next book in the series.

Jag kunde inte läsa klart denna blaska. Vilka dialoger.... Usch.

slow-paced

One of my favorite books❤️

Welcome to Prynne – a centre for teenagers who won't do their parents' bidding. Lead by Dr Vans, he resorts to drastic measures in order to 'convince' his patients to concede, especially where Tenley "Ten" Lockwood is concerned. In a world where life as you know it matters little and is but a rehearsal for Everlife, all in Firstlife are preparing for Everlife which means choosing one of the two warring kingdoms, but Ten refuses to do so.

I can't make up my mind on this one, I like it, I hate it, I can't stand it, I love it. Everything about Troika seems to be portrayed as terrible while Myriad is broadcast as both the place Ten's parents want her to go and where she'd fit in the best. A lot of Firstlife meant little to the plot and I deemed it unnecessary, if it'd been cut out I believe this book would be much more enjoyable and have appealed to me more.

As with many novels, the "dark side" is better than the light side. But in Firstlife, Myriad actually is as drastic and dark as they claim not to be, which Gena Showalter highlights in clever ways. To me, Troika is an utopia and there is nothing wrong with it except that it has too many rules and is too peaceful for Ten. Firstlife desperately needed to answer one question – why? Why choose torture over Myriad, etc.

Killian and Archer, dark and light? I'm not a fan of Archer. Why? Because he has no appeal to me whatsoever, comes from an equally boring kingdom with just as tedious people. I'm not entirely sure why, but I loath Troika. Gena Showalter's attempt at making the kingdoms have equal appeal completely failed on me, which is one of the main reasons I didn't like Firstlife as much as I should of. There's a great baseline concept, but the characters and storyline only annoyed me.

Tenley has been forced to choose where she will live after her first life comes to an end. Forced to choose one of two realms the one her parents are aligned to or the one her grandparents are aligned to.
Tenley has spent the last 13 months locked in a facility that tortures her pushing her to make the right choice and choose the one her parents are aligned with. Tenley has seen her friends disappear, lost a boyfriend and been bullied by the other patients.

When two guys show up at the facility each one is determined to win her over rivals from the very beginning. When an escape attempt actually ends up with Tenley and Sloan on the outside it might just give her the chance to figure out where she really belongs. Choosing which one will be where she spends her eternity doesn’t just affect herself but it could change the balance of the realms.

I like Tenley even though she is forced to choose her future which will change her life forever at such a young age. Her life has been rough right from the start she’s been forced to deal with torture and tragedy and death before even leaving the facility. I wasn’t sure about the guys both Archer and Killian are unique and each one has something to offer her but deep down I knew who my favorite was. I admit I was shocked to see how her relationship with Sloan played out after everything they dealt with.

I’ve been anxiously waiting to read Firstlife since it arrived in the mail and talked the girls easily into read it for bookclub. I found the concept unique an interesting play on what happens after you die and start your new life in one of two factions. It was an emotional read right from the start Tenley has a tragic past that only makes her stronger in resisting what’s really going on. I found her to be a likeable character even though she’s kind of in the middle of a love triangle between two unique guys. I’m not a huge fan of love triangles but I found this one works well together it’s filled with twists that kept me guessing till the very end. I’ve loved the author’s writing style it’s beautifully written creating a unique captivating story. I actually found Firstlife intriguing an action packed adventure that was hard to put down. I had to know what would happen next and I can’t wait for the next one.
